Free Memory Games

Memory games are short recall drills that ask you to study a small set of items once, then answer from memory instead of looking back. The 15 questions in this quiz cover the formats psychologists and puzzle makers rely on: word lists, forward and reverse digit spans, emoji rows, story recall and delayed recall. Two rounds rebuild classic tabletop formats. One asks how many cards sit face down in a Concentration deck of 12 matching pairs. Another runs Kim's game, the old scouting exercise where you study a tray of objects and name the one that vanished. The hardest rounds are rarely the longest ones. Reversing a three-digit run, or naming the fourth item on a five-item shopping list, taxes working memory far more than plain repetition does. Most adults hold about seven digits in short-term memory, so scores tend to dip once a sequence passes six items.
