Color Memory Game

A color memory game tests sequence recall, the ability to hold an ordered run of colors in short term memory and reproduce it after the display disappears. Order matters as much as the colors themselves, so knowing that green appeared is useless unless you also know it came fourth. This 12 round test builds from three colors up to six and adds twists that plain repetition cannot beat. One round prints the word PURPLE in green letters, the classic Stroop trap: reading a word happens faster than naming a color, so answering correctly means overriding an automatic response. Another asks for a three color run repeated backwards, and the final round returns to the sequence studied in round one, testing delayed recall across eleven rounds of interference. Most people hold roughly five to seven items at once, which is why the six color round is where first attempts usually break down.
